ADHD is one of the most prevalent intellectual illnesses that impact young children. It heavily influences the way people control their behaviours. In Malaysia, between 9% and 12.5% of the population were discovered to be diagnosed with ADHD, and only less than 30% of them seek ADHD treatment in Malaysia, as revealed by the Malaysian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences in June 2021.
Even with early detection, it would probably last into old age and can only be managed through medications or even therapies such as those found in facilities for ADHD treatment in KL,since it cannot be cured permanently. Aside from that, there is no apparent method of preventing people from getting ADHD.
Symptoms
Usually, there are two types of behavioural issues associated with ADHD, each with distinctive features, namely:
Inattentiveness
Easy to get distracted
Committing careless errors
Unable to organize daily chores properly
Highly forgetful
Impulsivity and hyperactivity
Talking too much
Finding it hard to stay seated
Intruding on other people’s conversations
Tend to perform leisure activities loudly
Causes of ADHD
In most cases, ADHD is a genetically related condition. In other words, it is hereditary. However, it can also happen due to a number of external factors, including:
Brain injury, especially around the frontal lobe
Prolonged exposure to toxic contaminants, such as lead
Tobacco and alcohol abuse during pregnancy
Additional Risk Factors for ADHD
Numerous research studies have concluded that there is a higher probability for ADHD to affect the following groups of individuals:
Epileptic patients
Those who were born prematurely
People with low birth weight
Treatment
As mentioned earlier, because ADHD is basically incurable, it can only be managed and regulated via constant medication interventions and physical therapies. Consuming methylphenidate and lisdexamfetamine, for example, can keep impulsive actions under control. At the same time, behavioural therapy can be utilized to help patients develop the right social skills. A regular ADHD treatment in KL will most probably encompass these methods.
